Fresh VS Salt Water Crossings

Fresh Water VS Salt Water CrossingsEveryone loves the satisfaction of getting through a challenging water crossing, but it is important to remember that not all water crossings are the same. While fresh water crossings are generally considered safe to drive through they do tend to be full of leaves, debris, silt and sometimes contain traces of metals that can corrode your 4WD. It is for this reason that no matter what type of water you drive through, it is essential that you give your entire 4WD a good clean and wash down to help maintain your vehicle.

Salt water on the other hand is renowned for causing rust on 4WDs. If you do go through salt water crossings it is recommended that you clean your 4WD as soon as possible and preferably with a washing agent designed to deal with saltwater immersion. When cleaning your 4WD down it is important to clean the under body as well and you can even spray a good dose of WD40 to help protect and prevent corrosion. If you do plan on tackling water crossings regularly you could also consider installing an electronic rust proofing system.

If you are planning on heading out and conquering some water crossing in your 4WD make sure that your 4WD is kitted up with 4WD tyres that you trust and can rely on.
