Trevor Slaughter is set to achieve the new Australian land speed record and take his Land Speed Streamliner to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, USA to break the current world record for a wheel driven vehicle by attempting 500mph (805kph) on Mickey Thompson Bonneville LSR (Land Speed Record) tyres.
Mickey Thompson Tires is proud to support Trevor Slaughter’s plans to break the world land speed record for a Turbine Engine, Wheel Driven Vehicle.
To break Donald Campbell’s long standing Australian Record of 403.10mph (648.73kph) and achieve the world record of over 458mph (737kph) at the Bonneville Salt Flats in the USA, Trevor’s Land Speed Streamliner will be fitted with unique Mickey Thompson Bonneville LSR (Land Speed Record) Tyres.
“Access to these Mickey Thompson tyres has really secured success for our team” says Trevor. “Until we had these tyres we were really on a bit of a “wing and a prayer”. These tyres are the only tyre that has been designed for the speeds and duty that we are going to experience. I am certain they will not let us down and in turn we must make sure we do our best to maximise the potential now that we can go for the record in safety.”
Known as “The World’s Fastest Tire”, the Mickey Thompson Bonneville LSR tyres Trevor is running have driven safely in excess of 450mph (720kph) on the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah in the USA making them the fastest tyres on the planet.
Mickey Thompson’s rich motorsport history and tyre innovation helped him become the fastest man on Earth in 1960 at the Bonneville Salt Flats by traveling at 406.6mph. To do this Mickey and his brilliant tyre engineer Gene McMannis started their own company that became an industry leader in racing and off-road tyres.
“We are so excited about being involved with Trevor in his attempt to break the 500 MPH mark, It’s a real milestone and even better that he’s going for it right here in Australia.” said Mickey Thompson’s Australian National Product Manager, Brad Smith. “When you think about it he will be joining a very select group of people when you consider that more people have walked on the moon than driven at over 400 MPH. That’s something pretty special and we are really excited to be part of it”.
